    Evaluation of a Foresight Measure
    Jan 6, 2009
This past December I finished my PhD dissertation, whose short title was 'evaluation of a foresight measure.' This study examined whether there is sufficient theoretical and empirical support for Dian's six personal styles of foresight, identified as Futurist, Activist, Opportunist, Flexist, Equilibrist, and Reactionist. Support was examined from both the diffusion of innovations and temporal perspective literature.

The World Future Society has just accepted my proposal to conduct a one-day pre-course, July 16th, in Chicago for their annual conference. The course focus: Modeling Global Futures: Frameworks and Tools. Dr. Tom Ferleman, of Booz, Allen and Hamilton will conduct this with me. Get Future Savvy about change
    Oct 6, 2008
Why do some business predictions seem to hit the nail on the head while others miss their mark so badly? What do some companies and analysts have that others don't? It is not a crystal ball! I just posted a review on Amazon.com for Future Savvy, an exciting new book which has just reached into their top 100 books on planning and forecasting.

    Engaging the University
    Aug 13, 2008
Dr. John Stackhouse offers a good essay on how Campus Ministry ought to cultivate its own vocation, with respect to engaging the university. What I like about it is that it calls Campus Ministry to fulfill the cultural mandate and situate itself between the Church and the University. This Campus Ministry 2.0 model will require greater thought leadership from staff in their 20's.

    Bike Ride to Work
    Aug 12, 2008
I am trying out a new mode of commuting-- riding a bike to work. This past week I bought a "folding" bike and mapped out my route to the university. Yes, it is a short commute, 1.5 miles, but I figure, it will keep me grounded! Street level views are so much more interesting than car views...

    The PhD in Futures Studies
    Jun 27, 2008
Over the past 50 years, organizational research by academics has buttressed the practice of futures studies and produced many of its strategy approaches, such as environmental scanning and market disruption theory. These breakthrough methods have created a thriving community of practicing and professional futurists. Yet the pursuit to find a disciplinary home for futures studies in the university has lagged. This paper explores how a PhD in Futures Studies, if refocused on theory-building could create anticipatory theories across the social sciences, and buttress the work of a new generation of futurists. This is the premise behind a paper I presented on July 2, 2008 to the World Futures Studies Federation, in Sweden.
