I've been invited to be a regional editor of Foresight, the journal of future studies, strategic thinking and policy. It is published out of Cambridge, UK by Emerald, and moving into its 12th year of publication. It also has a new editor, Dr. Ozcan Saritas, who has distinguished himself both as an academic and practitioner of foresight at the systemic, national, regional and sectoral levels.
Foresight focuses on established tools, techniques and methodologies of futures studies (e.g. scenario planning, Delphi, environmental scanning etc) as well as those of other social science disciplines. It is also informed by systems thinking and theories of post-modernism and complexity.
We are already planning issues a year out to cover applied subjects such as:
- Social, political and economic science
- Sustainable development
- Horizon scanning
- Scientific and technological change and its implications for society and policy
- Management of uncertainty, complexity and risk
- Foresight methodology, tools and techniques
If you are from North America and interested in publishing in Foresight, I encourage you to take a look at its recent abstracts and consider whether you have something to contribute about foresight processes from your experience in your sector or organization.
