Evaluation of a Foresight Measure
Jan 6, 2009
This past December I finished my PhD dissertation, whose short title was 'evaluation of a foresight measure.' This study examined whether there is sufficient theoretical and empirical support for Dian's six personal styles of foresight, identified as Futurist, Activist, Opportunist, Flexist, Equilibrist, and Reactionist. Support was examined from both the diffusion of innovations and temporal perspective literature.

The PhD in Futures Studies
Jun 27, 2008
Over the past 50 years, organizational research by academics has buttressed the practice of futures studies and produced many of its strategy approaches, such as environmental scanning and market disruption theory. These breakthrough methods have created a thriving community of practicing and professional futurists. Yet the pursuit to find a disciplinary home for futures studies in the university has lagged. This paper explores how a PhD in Futures Studies, if refocused on theory-building could create anticipatory theories across the social sciences, and buttress the work of a new generation of futurists. This is the premise behind a paper I presented on July 2, 2008 to the World Futures Studies
Federation, in Sweden.

Authentic Leadership in College Sports
Jun 11, 2007
Recent concerns about the integrity, openness and transparency of leadership in business, politics, and law enforcement is spurring on new research into a framework of authentic leadership. Few empirical studies, however, have tested this theory's constructs at the individual, group or organizational level. To fill this gap, this paper proposes to study the variables that might affect the perceptions that head coaches have concerning the authentic leadership of athletic directors.

Why Futures Studies Needs a Theory Base
Aug 4, 2006
Futures studies witnessed enormous gains in the 1990s by defining its knowledge base. To achieve further disciplinary rigor now, it must define its theory base through middle range analysis. I just wrote a journal article containing this premise. Check out its introduction and slides.

Self-Sacrificial Leadership & Islam?
Mar 24, 2006
Since the prophet Muhammad cartoon protests arose, various Christian leaders have called Islam a violent religion led by fanatics. Could Evangelical rhetoric be widening Huntington's 'clash of civilizations' between an Islamic civilization and Western civilization? Are evangelicals itching for a civilizational fight, as Hoover asks? Recently I presented a paper to the American Academy of Religion. Here is the abstract, an excerpt, the conclusion and references.

Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow
