BACK COVER:
Beginning with the miraculous virgin birth of Jesus Christ. Bethlehem documents the city's history with an exploration of archaeology, architecture, demography, costumes and legends.
With a special focus on the churches and the faithful, the film shows the rich and varied Christian communities and the unique manners and languages in which they worship. You will be taken to places and introduced to people and sights that few tourists and pilgrims ever have the opportunity to see.
Bethlehem's rich culture and folklore are reflected in the colorful Palestinian embroidery and special clothes of the town. The people demonstrate their attachment to the folklore through the museums and special fashion shows featuring traditional dress.
The film also looks at modern Bethlehem with its schools. universities, hospitals. architecture and religious handicrafts.
But no film about Bethlehem would be complete without special attention to the Christmas season arid the first Noel. Bethlehem comes to life on Christmas Eve, as various church leaders march into Manger Square to be welcomed by church and lay leaders.
While the film shows the pomp and festivity that occur every Christmas season, special effort is made to remind viewers that the real Church is not merely stones and pillars, but it is the people the living stones who are the true church, the ones for whom the call of the angels proclaimed, "Peace on earth and good will to all."
